Education is an important vehicle for an opportunity out of poverty, consistent with GLSP’s mission. We represent children who are being inappropriately or unfairly disciplined and caregivers who cannot get children enrolled in K-12 schools. GLSP represents parents in special education advocacy to work to secure appropriate education and services for their children. Given the frequent connection between overlooked disabilities and disruptive behavior, GLSP has also developed an expertise in recognizing and advocating for the special needs of students such as the need for appropriate treatment of mental health issues or learning disabilities, which dramatically improve behavioral and scholastic performance. Many of our student clients are children of color or with disabilities. Our lawyers have handled many important student discipline cases challenging excessive and inequitable discipline in Georgia.
